I feel proud when I witness the cognitive change among my colleagues, and this change has successfully led to corporate-level sustainability achievements.

When I surveyed the General Managers and Department Heads of our hotels about their views on phasing out single-use plastics, almost everyone supported. I knew that by then, they were all well-engaged and ready for a bigger change.

My colleagues also support various sustainability initiatives to help protect the environment. As I am in a one-person department, our sustainability achievements are attributable to the collective efforts of my colleagues.

Sustainability professionals are catalysts for major changes in a company by reshaping people’s behavior. It may take some time for behavior change to take place progressively, but people will eventually realize sustainability is good for them and the environment.

The process is similar to actualizing your dream, once you have identified the goals and the right direction of achieving them, stay patient and persistent, and keep yourself updated of the industry trends while executing your plan.
